Advocacy

NYSATA is the voice of over 6,000 art educators across New York State. We consult with and provide content area expertise for the State Education Department; collaborate on arts based initiatives; represent NY at the national level; monitor art education trends statewide and nationally; and provide a host of programs and opportunities to highlight student achievement in the visual arts.

Many of our advocacy efforts are geared toward the broad spectrum of arts legislation and regulation that impacts on programs in the schools we teach in. It is extremely important that all art educators become advocates in their own schools, districts, and communities. A picture is worth a thousand words should be your mantra. Make sure your parents, administrators, community members and legislators are aware of the work you are doing in your classroom, and the success your students are achieving.

Become involved in NYSATA initiatives and keep aware of the latest issues that impact on students and programs. E-News is an important awareness and advocacy tool that all art educators, members and non-members can subscribe to.
