Cheryl Shweider

Cheryl Schweider
Candidate for President Elect
I am excited to announce my candidacy for President Elect for NYSATA. I have been an art teacher for over 27 years and have been a member of NYSATA for 25 years. I first got involved through our NYSATA portfolio program. I continued to stay involved in my region and eventually attended BOT meetings and got involved in many committees and leadership positions. I am currently the state secretary. Last year, I was the interim vice president. At that time, I wasn’t ready to continue along that leadership path. At this point in my teaching career, I find that I will have more time to dedicate to NYSATA and am ready to move forward.

NYSATA has been a place for new friendships, inspiration, camaraderie, adventures, and many laughs. Through this organization, I have learned so much over the years about different mediums, artistic skills, communication, and classroom management and set up. I'd like to continue to offer that opportunity to all our members. Those who know me as a leader, know that I am quiet, observant, and a good listener. I don’t jump to conclusions. I weigh out all the options before I react, speak, and decide what to do. I am dedicated and will seek out the information I need to do a good job. I ask questions and work on solutions. I work diligently behind the scenes to get things done and am willing to put in the time to help everyone feel successful and to reach their full potential.

My goal within NYSATA is to keep moving forward in our pursuits to keep art at the forefront of creativity, unity, and education for the students of NY, especially as we move forward with the new portrait of a graduate. What we do is so important in contributing to the students' creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking. The collaboration that we have with other art teachers across the state is a huge asset to making that happen. I’d like to see the growth in the IAAP program across the state to keep our programs strong and intact in the eyes of NY, our districts, and our schools. I also believe it is necessary to keep giving our members opportunities for personal growth and for support in what they do and for their own well-being. Each of our members is a valued part of this organization and I look forward to guiding our members in any way that I can.

Office of Treasurer

Beginning July 1, 2026, the successful Candidate will serve 2 years as Treasurer

Amanda Falling

Amanda Falling
Candidate for Treasurer
I’m excited to put my name forward again for NYSATA Treasurer. Serving in this role has been a rewarding experience, and I’m proud of the work we’ve done to keep our finances organized, transparent, and running smoothly. Over the past two terms, I have learned much from my work on the Executive Board, and feel that I have been able to contribute positively to the organization as a whole. I have continued serving on the leadership board of my region, and hope to work with our members and leadership to continue building a strong organization that can weather the current times and those to come.During this current term, I have also taken leadership roles in my district that have deepened my understanding of policies and curriculum trends in the state. I feel this has helped me to give more to the Board of Trustees and speak on behalf of rural schools and the unique struggles we face. Being an advocate for school communities such as mine has been very rewarding, both professionally and personally.I’d love the opportunity to continue building on that work and supporting NYSATA in a consistent and reliable way. Thank you for your consideration!
